Nuevo Laredo is strategically located in the northern region of the state of Tamaulipas, directly along the U.S.–Mexico border, positioning it as a key gateway for cross-border trade and industrial operations. The municipal seat is located at approximately 27°30′ north latitude and 99°30′ west longitude, at an average elevation of 150 meters above sea level, offering favorable geographic and topographic conditions for urban and industrial development.
The municipality borders the United States to the north and west, while to the south and east it adjoins the state of Nuevo León and the municipality of Guerrero, Tamaulipas. This location places Nuevo Laredo within one of the most active commercial corridors between Mexico and the United States, with direct access to major logistics, manufacturing, and distribution networks on both sides of the border.
Nuevo Laredo covers a territorial extension of 1,224 square kilometers, representing approximately 1.5% of the total surface area of the state of Tamaulipas. The municipality is composed of 29 localities, with Nuevo Laredo City serving as the administrative, economic, and industrial center, complemented by smaller communities such as La Concordia and La Sandía.
This geographic positioning reinforces Nuevo Laredo’s role as a strategic platform for international trade, industrial investment, and binational logistics, supporting regional competitiveness within the broader Laredo Region.
