Nuevo León's strategic location plays a significant role in its economic development and connectivity. Covering an area of 64,655 square kilometers, which represents 3.3% of the total geographical area of the country, the state is well-positioned for regional and international trade.
Its geographical position includes a 14-kilometer border with the United States, as well as borders with neighboring Mexican states: Coahuila and Tamaulipas to the north; Tamaulipas to the east and south; and San Luis Potosí, Zacatecas, and Coahuila to the west. This advantageous location provides access to important transportation corridors, facilitating the movement of goods and people across national and international borders.

Nuevo León is one of the most populated states in Mexico, with a total population of 5,784,442 inhabitants. The gender distribution in the state is 50% women and 50% men.
The municipalities with the highest population in Nuevo León are Monterrey, the state capital, which has 1,142,994 inhabitants and is the most important economic, cultural, and administrative center in the region. The city is known for its business dynamism and its role as an industrial and technological engine of Mexico.
Apodaca, with 656,464 inhabitants, is another important hub that has experienced significant growth in recent years, thanks to its industrial development and strategic location near Monterrey.
Guadalupe, with 643,143 inhabitants, is a prosperous municipality known for its commercial and industrial activity.
Monterrey has a semi-arid climate. It is one of the warmest major cities in Mexico. Summers are generally hot, spring and fall are temperate, and winters are mild, rarely with below-freezing temperatures. The average high in August is 35 °C, and the average low is 23 °C. The average January high is 21 °C, and the average low in January is 8 °C. Rainfall is scarce in winter but more frequent during May through September.
Monterrey frequently experiences extreme climate changes; for example, it sometimes reaches 30 °C in January and February, the coldest months. The most extreme weather changes in summer occur with rainfall, which can significantly reduce temperatures. In winter, the temporary absence of the northern winds leads to abnormally high temperatures. Seasons are not well defined; the warm season may start in February and may last until September.
The Sierra Madre Oriental mountain range covers 50.9% of the territory, The Great Plains of North America cover 34.6%, and the Northern Gulf Coastal Plain encompasses 14.5% of the state.
