Spaceport

The establishment of Starbase, SpaceX’s orbital mission spaceport in Boca Chica, Cameron County, Texas, near the Gulf of México, has greatly accelerated the region’s economic growth, transforming it into a hub of technology and innovation, as one of the world’s first commercial spaceports. SpaceX reports that the site employs 1,800 workers, while Cameron County figures suggest the total number of jobs created, including direct and indirect employment, exceeds 3,400. Additionally, the new Starfactory facility under construction will produce and launch starships, further enhancing local employment.

SpaceX’s investment in Starbase has surpassed $3 billion, generating an estimated annual market value of $6.5 billion for the Rio Grande Valley Binational Region and over $800 million in state and local government revenue, including indirect taxes from the 350 acres occupied by the spaceport.

Starbase’s presence has also driven key infrastructure upgrades, such as expanded roadways and utilities, to support growing aerospace activities. This accessibility is attracting other aerospace and tech industries to explore opportunities in the Region.
