Weslaco secures $26 million investment to expand and modernize Mid Valley Airport

The City of Weslaco announced more than $26 million in state funding to expand and modernize Mid Valley Airport, marking one of the most significant infrastructure investments in South Texas aviation. The project positions Weslaco as a regional hub for business, commerce, and trade, while creating new opportunities for industries across the Rio Grande Valley.

Strategic projects shaping the future

The investment is distributed among three key projects designed to enhance aviation capacity and strengthen regional resilience:

• $8 million hangar expansion – Supporting Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), law enforcement, and first responders while expanding the airport’s operational capabilities.
• $10 million runway improvements – Extending operations and solidifying Weslaco’s role as a regional hub for commerce and trade.
• $8 million infrastructure upgrades – Enhancing drainage systems, flood protection, and long-term resilience.

These improvements go beyond airport modernization; they create a platform for long-term growth. The expansion of Mid Valley Airport is expected to:
