The Texas Manufacturing Assistance Center (TMAC) held a training workshop to support small and medium-sized businesses in South Texas in implementing system automation and robotics in their production processes. The event attracted companies from various industries across the region.

With new federal policies and guidelines encouraging increased productivity without relocating operations across the border, manufacturers in South Texas are looking for ways to remain competitive. Automation and robotics provide a viable solution, enabling businesses to maintain operations in the region while keeping costs manageable.

Customer demand has been a key driver of automation adoption among small businesses, as these technologies reduce error margins and enhance productivity. However, some companies have been hesitant to implement such solutions due to a lack of technical knowledge required for maintenance. The TMAC workshop addressed these concerns, offering insights into costs and accessibility. The session was led by Terrence Southern, Texas State Manager for Automation and Advanced Manufacturing.

"The cost of investment is often the biggest concern, which is why we organize these workshops—to normalize the adoption of new technologies and provide a clearer understanding of actual implementation costs, which have significantly decreased over the years," said David Ortiz, TMAC Regional Director for South Texas.

Terrence Southern is a specialist in robotics, automation, and artificial intelligence. As an entrepreneur, inventor, and public speaker, he is an expert in developing strategies for robotic solutions and machine learning technology. Over his 25-year career, he has installed more than 2,000 robots in projects worldwide.

TMAC assists businesses interested in adopting automation processes by analyzing their operations and production characteristics, conducting cost-benefit assessments, and designing implementation strategies.
