During the first semester of 2022, the Ministry of Economy reported 27,511.6 million dollars of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI). The data will be adjusted when there is more information on the operations of that period.
FDI figures were reviewed jointly by Banco de México and will be included in the latter 's Balance of Payments Report.
From January to June of this year, extraordinary FDI movements were carried out , related to the merger of Televisa with Univisión , and the restructuring of Aeroméxico , which together represent 6,875.0 million dollars of FDI.
Without considering the movements mentioned above, in the first half of 2022 FDI is 12.0%, higher than the preliminary amount captured in the same period of 2021, which was 18,433.5 million dollars.
When considering the merger of the television stations and the restructuring of the airline, the preliminary FDI received in January-June 2022 increased 49.2% compared to preliminary figures for the same period in 2021.
Preliminary figures available to date indicate that 27,511.6 million dollars were received in these six months , the net result of the difference of 33,510.0 million dollars recorded in inflows and 5,998.4 million dollars in outflows .
The registered preliminary FDI came from: 2,376 companies with foreign capital participation; 2,649 trust agreements ; and 16 foreign legal entities. In addition, it is integrated as follows:
- By type of investment (origin of financing): for new investments, 43.0%; for reinvestment of profits, 42.4%; and for accounts between companies, 14.6%.
- By sector: manufacturing, 34.3%; transportation, 16.3%, information in mass media, 14.2%; financial and insurance services, 13.0%; trade, 6.1%; and mining, 4.7%. The remaining sectors captured 11.4%.

The methodology for determining FDI is based on international standards, contained both in the Balance of Payments Manual of the International Monetary Fund , and in the Framework Definition of Foreign Direct Investment of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).
The reported amounts only consider investments made and formally notified before the National Registry of Foreign Investments of the Ministry of Economy ; hence its preliminary nature and the fact that it will undergo updates in successive quarters.
