Texas continues to reinforce its leadership in the semiconductor industry through strategic investments in workforce development. A $3.5 million grant from the Texas Semiconductor Innovation Fund (TSIF) has been awarded to Texas State Technical College (TSTC) to expand its Accelerated Semiconductor Technician Training Program (ASTTP) at the Williamson County campus in Hutto.

The funding will support the transformation of existing instructional and laboratory space into a specialized training facility focused on semiconductor and electromechanical skills—areas that are critical to sustaining the rapid expansion of chip manufacturing and advanced technology operations across the state.

Fast-Track Training for High-Demand Semiconductor Jobs

TSTC’s ASTTP is designed to deliver a modular, accelerated curriculum that prepares technicians for semiconductor fabrication roles in as little as 10 weeks. Graduates of the program will be equipped for positions such as equipment technicians, process technicians, and gas control system specialists—roles that are increasingly in demand as semiconductor production scales across Texas.

The program includes a wafer processing learning environment featuring a mock cleanroom that mirrors real-world industry workflows. This hands-on approach allows students to gain practical experience aligned with the operational standards of modern semiconductor facilities.

Building Talent to Support Texas’ Semiconductor Ecosystem

By investing in accelerated and industry-aligned training, Texas is strengthening the talent pipeline needed to support semiconductor manufacturing, research, and design. Programs like ASTTP help bridge the gap between education and industry by delivering job-ready skills that meet the immediate needs of employers.

Located in Williamson County, a region experiencing growing industrial and technology activity, TSTC’s expanded program will play a key role in preparing a workforce capable of supporting both current operations and future semiconductor investments.

A Strategic Tool Under the Texas CHIPS Framework

The TSIF was established under the Texas CHIPS framework to encourage continued leadership in semiconductor innovation, manufacturing, and workforce development. The fund supports initiatives that expand the capacity of higher education institutions while aligning training programs with the needs of semiconductor-related companies operating in Texas.

Through targeted grants like this one, Texas is reinforcing its position as a premier destination for semiconductor investment—combining infrastructure, innovation, and a skilled workforce to support long-term competitiveness.

As demand for chips continues to grow across industries such as automotive, aerospace, data centers, and artificial intelligence, workforce initiatives like TSTC’s ASTTP are becoming essential pillars of the state’s economic and industrial strategy.
