The expansion of the Starr-Camargo International Bridge from two to 14 lanes will create new, more direct trade routes between the Mexican states of Tamaulipas and Nuevo León and the city of Houston, Texas, USA, highlighted Sam Vale, president of Starr-Camargo Bridge Company.

The Starr-Camargo International Bridge is located between the border cities of Camargo, Tamaulipas, and Rio Grande City, Texas, with Nuevo León as the closest Mexican state.

Recently, Vale and Senator Ted Cruz led a site tour of the bridge facilities to discuss the project’s competitive advantages and the strategic benefits the expansion will bring. The tour highlighted the project phases and the advanced technologies planned to enhance this international route.

Vale noted that among those expressing interest in developing strategies to drive multimodal logistics are representatives from the Port of Houston, following the recent approval to increase the bridge’s commercial capacity from two to 14 lanes.

“We’ve received interest from other ports, like Houston, to establish new trade routes with clients in Mexico,” Vale explained.
With this infrastructure development, increased business opportunities and job creation on both sides of the border are also anticipated.

“We will now begin coordination efforts with the Mexican Federal Government to move this project forward for the benefit of both sides of the border,” Vale concluded.

The tour was attended by government officials, business leaders, transport operators, and freight agents, all of whom underscored the importance of this project in attracting investments, creating jobs, and enabling new trade routes.

Attendees also agreed that the expansion would establish the bridge as the largest-capacity crossing in the Rio Grande Valley region and the only one equipped to handle double-trailer and overweight vehicles, a significant advantage for logistics operations.
