From September 24 to 27, 2025, the Southern Border Conference will take place, bringing together customs brokers, foreign trade specialists, and representatives from various associations to analyze current challenges in international trade and operations at the Mexico–U.S. border.
Organized this year by the Mid Valley Customs Brokers Association, the event will feature lectures, specialized panels, and networking activities designed to keep participants updated on high-impact issues for the industry.
“This is about keeping customs brokers informed about the issues happening in real time, while also fulfilling the continuing education hours required by U.S. authorities,” explained Crispín Flores, President of the Mid Valley Customs Brokers Association.
Key topics will include tariff measures, countervailing duties, product evaluations, and registration challenges with federal agencies in trade operations. Flores emphasized the importance of analyzing Section 232 tariffs, which cover steel, aluminum, copper, and auto parts: “It’s critical to understand this so we can ensure importers do not pay more than what is required,” he said.
For his part, Jorge Torres, Vice President of the Association, highlighted the importance of ongoing training: “Customs brokers in the United States now face a relatively new requirement for continuing education—12 hours annually approved by CBP. The sessions offered at this event are accredited and will help participants meet that requirement.”
The program will also feature lectures delivered by international experts and specialists in artificial intelligence applied to trade. In addition, attendees will take part in social activities such as visits to the port and the Pharr International Bridge, along with networking sessions aimed at strengthening professional ties.
“This is an opportunity not only to meet the challenges of staying up to date, but also to come together as a community, get to know one another better, and build a stronger voice with government,” Torres concluded.
The Southern Border Conference has become a key meeting point for customs brokers, importers, exporters, and foreign trade professionals across the border region. For more information about registration and the full agenda, visit sbconference.net.
