The United States and Mexico are strengthening their economic collaboration through a series of initiatives aimed at consolidating investments, enhancing nearshoring, and reinforcing the integration of regional value chains.

The SelectUSA Mexico 2025 Conference was held in Mexico City, bringing together business leaders, investors, and government representatives to discuss the strategic role of both nations as key economic partners.

"Today, we have 40 economic development organizations from across the United States, alongside Mexican investors and distinguished experts. This event is not just an opportunity to promote investment but also a platform to build bridges that strengthen our economies and benefit our communities," stated Santiago Dávila, Foreign Affairs Officer at the U.S. Department of Commerce.

The exchange of ideas and access to key resources are essential to generating a positive impact in the region.

Meanwhile, Pedro Casas, CEO of the American Chamber of Commerce (AMCHAM), highlighted the growing interest of Mexican companies in expanding their presence in the United States.

"Mexico's appetite for investing in the United States is clear, reflecting the deep economic integration between our nations. We are not just trade partners; we are part of a co-production system that adds value to our exports and strengthens our supply chains," he commented.

Casas also emphasized the success of events like SelectUSA, an initiative that facilitates foreign investment in the United States.

"Last year, Mexico had the largest delegation in the history of this event in Washington. However, we must aim higher. Some Asian countries surpass us in participation, and it is crucial to send a clear message: investing in the United States also means investing in Mexico because our economies are deeply interconnected," he noted.

Nearshoring and Startups

The current landscape presents unprecedented opportunities for investment, according to Mark Johnson, Chargé d'Affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Mexico.

"Today, companies seek locations that provide comprehensive solutions. The United States remains the top global investment destination, not only because of its economy but also due to its capacity for innovation and creativity."

He also highlighted the importance of nearshoring as a strategic tool to reduce costs, improve delivery times, and strengthen supply chains. "The United States and Mexico are geographically linked forever, and that is an advantage we must leverage. We are partners in trade, culture, security, and, most importantly, in business. There is no better time to strengthen this relationship."

The role of startups was also emphasized as a key component of the bilateral economic relationship. John Breidenstine, Minister Counselor at the U.S. Embassy, shared the achievements of the SelectUSA Tech program, which has supported thousands of startups since its inception.

"We have facilitated over $250 billion in investments since 2011, creating more than 230,000 jobs in the United States. Mexican startups have found in SelectUSA a platform to launch and scale their operations, benefiting not just the companies themselves but also driving innovation in our region."

One of the most frequently mentioned ideas among participants was the concept of economic integration as the foundation for joint growth.

"The United States has the highest percentage of Mexican content in its exports. This shows that we are no longer just trade partners but an integrated production system that adds value in both directions," explained Casas.

Johnson expanded on this idea, stating that creativity and innovation are the greatest contributions of foreign investors. "What we value most is not just the capital being invested but the ideas, energy, and passion that come with it. Many of the best projects in the United States come from people who arrive from other countries with a different perspective and a strong desire to contribute to the development of our communities."

Finally, Dávila concluded by emphasizing that events like these are essential for strengthening the relationship between both countries. "Investing in the United States not only benefits Mexican investors but also drives economic development in Mexico. It is a mutually beneficial relationship that we must continue to foster," he asserted.
