The Rio South Texas Region continued advancing its position as one of North America’s most important trade and logistics corridors through its participation in the 2027 Texas Freight Mobility Plan Industry Workshop in Laredo, Texas, where the Council for South Texas Economic Progress (COSTEP), represented the region in discussions about the future of freight transportation across the state.
For a region whose competitiveness depends heavily on the efficient movement of goods, participation in this type of planning process is highly significant. It places the Rio South Texas Region directly within the conversations that will help define future infrastructure priorities, freight strategies, and logistics conditions across Texas.
COSTEP Brings the Region’s Perspective to the Freight Conversation
Representing COSTEP, Alma Saldaña Cruz, Assistant Director of Economic Development, took part in the workshop as the voice of a region that plays a critical role in cross-border trade, manufacturing, and supply chain connectivity.
That representation matters because the Rio South Texas Region is not just another logistics market. It is a binational platform where industrial production, border trade, and freight movement intersect daily, making state-level transportation planning especially relevant to its long-term growth.
By participating in the workshop, COSTEP helped ensure that the needs, realities, and opportunities of the Rio South Texas Region remain part of the broader freight mobility agenda in Texas.
A Relevant Step for the Region’s Logistics Future
For the Rio South Texas Region, engagement in freight mobility planning is directly tied to economic competitiveness. The region’s role in North American trade depends on infrastructure that can support cargo efficiency, reduce bottlenecks, and respond to the growing complexity of supply chains.
Being present in these discussions allows the region to help shape the future conditions that will influence:
- freight efficiency
- cross-border cargo movement
- logistics competitiveness
- industrial expansion
- long-term infrastructure alignment
In practical terms, this type of participation helps reinforce the region’s standing as a strategic trade corridor and strengthens its case for continued public and private investment.
A Strategic Trade Corridor with a Growing Logistics Role
The Rio South Texas Region has increasingly positioned itself as a corridor where logistics and manufacturing work together to support binational growth. As trade flows continue evolving, the ability to move goods efficiently across South Texas becomes even more important for industries operating on both sides of the border.
That is why COSTEP’s participation in initiatives like the Texas Freight Mobility Plan carries broader significance. It reflects a proactive effort to ensure that the region is not only responding to freight trends, but helping shape them.
