Pharr continues to demonstrate its leadership in workforce development through a successful partnership between the Pharr Economic Development Corporation (Pharr EDC) and the Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Independent School District (PSJA ISD). The joint initiative connects students with local businesses, equipping them with hands-on experience and professional certifications that translate into real career opportunities.
Building a workforce for tomorrow
Through this collaboration, students have completed internships in sectors such as automotive technology, culinary arts, diesel mechanics, and information technology. These experiences not only strengthen their technical skills but also provide them with industry-recognized licenses — preparing them to enter the job market with competitive salaries and practical expertise.
Víctor Pérez, President and CEO of Pharr EDC, emphasized that the results of this partnership go beyond training.
“Our collaboration with PSJA ISD is producing real results. Together, we’re preparing our youth for high-wage careers and developing a generation ready to reinvest in our community and strengthen Pharr’s economic future,” he stated.
Education and industry working together
The program has become a model for how cities can align education and economic development to meet the needs of local employers. By bridging classroom learning with real-world experience, Pharr is creating a sustainable talent pipeline that supports key regional industries and encourages students to build their careers close to home.
The Pharr EDC continues to work with schools, training centers, and companies across the region to ensure that workforce readiness remains at the heart of its economic development strategy — reinforcing Pharr’s role as one of South Texas’s most forward-thinking cities for investment and innovation.
