The city of Pharr, Texas, continues to consolidate itself as a strategic point for the manufacturing industry and cross-border supply chains, stated Lilvette Santos, Director of Business Development at the Pharr Economic Development Corporation (Pharr EDC), during the 31st Foreign Trade Congress of the Mexican Business Council for Foreign Trade (COMCE).
Santos explained that the city is experiencing organic industrial growth in both its production platform and industrial sector, attracting companies interested not only in relocating but also in bringing their suppliers closer to strengthen operations along the border corridor.
“We have seen a wave of interest from many companies, not only to expand or relocate on the U.S. side, but also to broaden horizons and bring their suppliers closer,” she noted.
Strengthening supply chains and refrigerated products
According to Santos, industrial expansion is primarily linked to supply chains in the automotive sector, as well as the meat and refrigerated products industries, which have shown a growing trend.
Institutional alliance to attract investment
Santos highlighted that collaborative growth in investment has been supported by a joint effort between Pharr EDC, the Pharr International Bridge, and the local Chamber of Commerce—an initiative that has made it possible to offer a more inclusive and strategic environment for investment attraction.
“These three entities are working strongly on expansion because demand has increased significantly for us,” she stated.
Participation in the Congress is particularly relevant for strengthening the cooperation agreement signed last year between Pharr EDC and COMCE, aimed at promoting business, exports, imports, and reinforcing Pharr’s position within the border industrial ecosystem.
Santos also emphasized the establishment of Comce Binational Pharr, an initiative derived from this collaborative effort and launched in March 2024. Although still in the legal formation process, it has already generated benefits through joint activities involving economic development, the logistics hub, the Chamber of Commerce, and the International Bridge.
“Even while still in this process, it has already produced collaborative results. This cooperation is not limited to how economic development can support, but also involves the Hub and other initiatives,” she affirmed.
