The fourth edition of the Industrial Warehouse Summit recently took place in Pharr, Texas, serving as a platform to showcase the city's competitive advantages in areas such as infrastructure, workforce, economic incentives, industrial land availability, educational tools, and quality of life.

Organized by the Pharr Economic Development Corporation (Pharr EDC) in partnership with the Pharr International Bridge administration, the event gathered real estate developers, business leaders, officials, and representatives from various organizations and business chambers. This gathering facilitated open networking and featured specialized presentations from industry experts.

“We want investors to get to know our city. We’re promoting job creation, economic growth, and development,” said Victor Pérez, CEO of Pharr EDC.

Showcasing Pharr’s Competitive Edge

Lilvette Santos, Pharr EDC's Director of Business Economic Development, highlighted key reasons for investing in Pharr during her presentation, emphasizing the strength of the local workforce.

For instance, she noted that more than 86% of the population is bilingual, with an average age ranging from 29 to 32 years old. Additionally, over 22% of the workforce is engaged in commerce, infrastructure services, and manufacturing.

She also stressed the collaborative efforts in the Rio Grande Valley region, where Pharr is located. The region boasts 12 higher education institutions working together to foster innovation and develop new skills.

As part of these partnerships, Hania Uriegas, a program specialist from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV), presented various training programs available for both students and the local workforce.

Connecting Markets

In his address, Luis Bazán, Director of the Pharr International Bridge, highlighted the bridge's role as a leading gateway for perishable goods between Mexico and the United States, with over 6,000 commercial units crossing daily. He also discussed the ongoing expansion plan to double the bridge's capacity with the construction of a second bridge, aiming to streamline imports and exports.

Meanwhile, Rubén Alfaro, Development Engineer at the Hidalgo County Regional Mobility Authority, provided updates on the 365 Tollway project, which is set to enhance connectivity within the Rio Grande Valley. The project is progressing well, he said, and will link Military Highway to Thomas Road in Hidalgo County, Texas.

Additionally, Janie Cavazos, Pharr EDC's Property and Business Development Manager, noted the growth of industrial space in the city. Nine new industrial parks are currently under construction, adding to the six already in operation, bringing the total to 15.

Another competitive advantage was highlighted by José J. Peña, Pharr's Director of IT, who emphasized the city's high-speed internet connectivity, which offers competitive and affordable rates.

Event sponsors South Texas Facility Partnership and Raba Kistner showcased the collaboration and business opportunities available in Pharr, forming new connections with attendees.
