New Partnership Between McAllen, Texas, COMCE and Nuevo León, Mexico, Aims to Streamline International Trade

With the aim of fostering mutual economic development and optimizing international trade processes, the city of McAllen, Texas, in collaboration with the Mexican Business Council for Foreign Trade, Investment, and Technology (COMCE) in Northeastern Mexico, and the Secretariat of Economy of Nuevo León, Mexico, have signed a new cooperation agreement.

According to officials, this agreement underscores the importance of strong commercial ties between border communities and their impact on regional economic growth, with a particular focus on enhancing the efficiency of the Anzaldúas International Bridge.

The agreement seeks to expedite the flow of exports via the Anzaldúas International Bridge, a state-of-the-art infrastructure located between the cities of Reynosa, Tamaulipas, and Mission, Texas, where more than 44,000 empty southbound trucks are processed each year.

Moreover, with the planned expansion set for the first half of 2025, a project involving an $88 million investment, the bridge will soon accommodate northbound commercial truck traffic. This development will further facilitate trade between both sides of the border and strengthen the approach of using this route as the primary crossing point for northeastern Mexico's trade processes with the United States.

The ceremony also saw participation from educational authorities of the Autonomous University of Nuevo León (UANL) and representatives from the World Trade Center Monterrey, as part of efforts to enhance and strengthen the workforce capacities between the two nations.

Currently, COMCE Northeast represents various business sectors in northeastern Mexico, including those based in Chihuahua, Coahuila, Durango, Nuevo León, and Tamaulipas.
