Strengthening partnerships with educational institutions is essential for developing specialized professionals in the manufacturing and logistics industries of the Rio Grande Valley, Texas. This was emphasized by Josh Vasquez, Workforce Development Director at the McAllen Economic Development Corporation (EDC), as he announced the initiatives planned for 2025.

Among the strategies, collaboration with South Texas College (STC) stands out. This partnership aims to design and implement programs that specialize the workforce in new technologies and innovation processes. These programs are intended to update current workers and enhance their skills to meet the growing demands of the industrial sector.

Additionally, McAllen EDC is committed to expanding hands-on learning programs. These initiatives are designed to bridge the gap between academic education and the real needs of the industry, ensuring that workers acquire the competencies and knowledge required in today’s labor market.

Another key pillar of their strategy is offering training sessions for human resources certifications, specifically tailored to cross-border operations. According to Vasquez, these certifications will enable professionals to manage the complexities of employment and workforce dynamics in international contexts, further strengthening the region’s competitiveness.

These initiatives underscore McAllen EDC's commitment to economic and workforce development in the Rio Grande Valley.
