McAllen Airport Reaches 1 Million Passengers in 2024: A New Record

With over one million passengers served so far in 2024, McAllen International Airport in Texas has achieved a new record for air mobility in the Rio Grande Valley.

The airport currently offers 22 daily flights to nine destinations across Mexico and the United States, served by six airlines. Passengers can enjoy direct flights to U.S. cities such as Austin, Houston, Dallas, Tampa-St. Petersburg, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and Orlando, as well as to Cancún and Mexico City in Mexico.

“We are continuously improving with renovations and expansions. We now offer nonstop flights to Dallas, Houston, Las Vegas, Orlando, Tampa, Los Angeles, Cancún, Mexico City, and Austin. We are proud to serve our customers and are actively exploring new travel opportunities for the region,” said Jeremy Santoscoy, Director of Aviation.

To commemorate this milestone, a special ceremony honored the one-millionth passenger, who was awarded tickets to McAllen’s most prominent festivals throughout the year.

This year, the airport welcomed three new airlines and introduced four direct routes: Austin with Delta Air Lines, Mexico City with Aeroméxico, Cancún with Volaris, and Tampa-St. Petersburg with Allegiant Air. These new additions are part of the nine nonstop domestic and international flights the airport now offers.

“Nonstop flights from McAllen connect people, opportunities, and economies, turning dreams into reality. This achievement is a strong indicator of our region's success,” remarked Isaac J. Tawil, Interim City Manager of McAllen.

Additionally, the airport reported a 25% increase in annual traffic and secured $7.4 million in federal funding to enhance its facilities and expand capacity.
