The binational collaboration between companies in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, and Brownsville, Texas, was strengthened through a meeting attended by representatives from the Export Manufacturers Association (index) in Matamoros and John Cowen, the mayor of Brownsville.
The dialogue focused on cross-border growth opportunities, the competitive advantages of the logistics sector, the development of new infrastructure, supply chain opportunities, and nearshoring.
From index Matamoros, Rolando González, President, Roberto Mattus, Director, and Lenn Phegley, Board Advisor, participated in the meeting.
Regarding cross-border opportunities, González emphasized the importance of ongoing collaboration to attract new investments to the region, thereby creating new jobs.
Mattus discussed the growth of industrial parks in Matamoros and logistics distribution centers aimed at making international trade processes more efficient, while Cowen highlighted similar initiatives in Brownsville.
The existence of international bridges for commercial use was another central point. Phegley stressed the importance of fostering a favorable business climate through coordination between authorities and organizations.
The opportunities for suppliers on both sides of the border to benefit from phenomena like nearshoring were highlighted by Mayor Cowen, who underscored the need for promotional schemes. The index members suggested strategies to support and empower local suppliers to participate in supply chains.
The commitment to maintain these meetings more frequently to ensure more precise follow-up for development was reinforced during the dialogue.
