Large industrial companies are increasingly settling near the Port of Brownsville, according to Guillermo Rico, Director of Business Development and Marketing at the Port of Brownsville.

In an interview with México Industry during the SelectUSA event, Rico highlighted that there is currently significant industrial development at Rio Grande LNG, a project by Next Decay. This facility is designed to liquefy natural gas for export to Europe and Asia, with an investment of $18.4 billion.

He also confirmed that a similar project by Texas LNG, valued at $5 billion, is about to be authorized, alongside another project by Force Steel, a Monterrey-based company that manufactures steel pipes, with an investment close to $100 million.

Competitive Advantages

"The advantages we have are, first, that there is plenty of available land near an entity with multimodal transportation, we have all the services, and we offer all the support needed to make the investments very competitive," emphasized Rico.

The director added that they are working to make the port even more competitive by expanding service infrastructure, ensuring that companies remain stable in the future.

Another key area the Port of Brownsville is focused on is developing a skilled, continuously trained workforce.

"We are also focusing on the workforce, which is why we have the Advanced Manufacturing Training Center through Texas A&M University. This center will receive a $30 million investment to build a much more comprehensive facility," he explained.

More About the Port

Rico discussed the advantages of the Port of Brownsville, emphasizing that it is the only deep-water port on the U.S.-Mexico border, located just 10 miles away.

He also highlighted that they serve clients like Ternium, which handles 5.5 million tons, and noted that most fuels, aluminum, and cement pass through this port.

"The competitiveness is there, the supply chains we form are extremely valuable for logistics and are very resilient," he remarked.

For Rico, SelectUSA is an important event for the Port of Brownsville, as it allows them to promote the location to Mexican entrepreneurs and encourage them to invest in Texas.
