Maersk Expands North American Operations with Major El Paso Logistics Hub

A.P. Moller – Maersk (Maersk) has officially opened its new 402,000-square-foot facility in El Paso, Texas, designed to meet the growing demand for logistics services along the U.S.-Mexico border. The facility marks a significant milestone for Maersk in North America, reinforcing its commitment to cross-border trade and less-than-truckload (LTL) services.

According to Gordon Branov, Head of LTL, Full Truckload (FTL), and Linehaul for Maersk North America, this strategic investment is part of Maersk's broader ambition to be a global leader in logistics integration. "The opening of the El Paso facility is a milestone for Maersk in North America, as it reinforces our commitment to serving customers’ cross-border and less-than-truckload needs. Maersk’s ambition is to be the integrator of logistics, and this strategic move enables us to provide customers with an expanded product portfolio, encompassing ocean services, warehousing, distribution, and landside transportation, tailored to the intricacies of cross-border trade," Branov said in a company statement.

The multiclient facility boasts 73 dock doors, two ramps for oversized cargo, and 116 truck yard spaces. It is designed for the efficient receiving, separation, and consolidation of cargo, as well as the distribution of freight across North America via Maersk’s ground freight network. The center is secured with 24-hour surveillance and a fully fenced yard, ensuring top-tier security for clients' goods.

Strategic Location

Positioned just five minutes from the Ysleta-Zaragoza International Bridge, which connects El Paso to Ciudad Juárez in Chihuahua, Mexico, the facility offers a critical advantage for fast and flexible cross-border trade. The Ysleta Port of Entry is the largest commercial port in the El Paso district and serves as a key trade corridor for goods heading north from Juárez. Its proximity to the busy Interstate 10 also makes it a prime stopping point for trucks transporting domestic goods across the United States.

Competitive Advantages

The facility features a customs-bonded warehouse, allowing customers to defer duty payments until merchandise is either released for consumption or re-exported. In addition, it includes a 80,000-square-foot Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ), where goods can be stored indefinitely without incurring duties. For added convenience, clients can rent office space within the facility, giving authorized personnel direct access to their inventory.

The site is fully compliant with the Customs Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT), a voluntary trade program administered by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) that aims to secure international trade. It also holds ISO 9001:2015 certification, which recognizes the facility's adherence to high standards in quality management systems.

Services for a Range of Industries

The logistics center serves a wide variety of industries, including automotive, healthcare, retail, and technology. Available services range from cargo sorting, storage, cross-docking, and inventory management, to more value-added offerings like reverse logistics, kitting, and vendor management. The facility also supports less-than-container load (LCL), full-container load (FCL), and air freight consolidation services, in addition to Maersk’s ground freight solutions, including cross-border and expedited freight services.

This El Paso center is part of Maersk’s expansive logistics network in North America, which includes over 150 warehousing facilities across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, totaling more than 26 million square feet. Earlier this year, Maersk also opened a new warehouse in Tijuana, Mexico, further expanding its logistics footprint.
