The City of Laredo will officially designate April 13–17, 2026, as International Bridge Week, a multi-day initiative created to highlight the city’s role as the leading inland port of entry in the United States and a key platform for cross-border trade, mobility, and binational connectivity.
The week will begin with a proclamation ceremony led by Mayor Dr. Victor D. Treviño, bringing together local authorities, stakeholders, and the broader community to recognize the strategic value of the Laredo Bridge System in sustaining international commerce and regional economic activity.
A trade platform with national relevance
At the center of the celebration is Laredo’s position as the No. 1 inland port in the United States, supporting more than $354 billion in trade. That figure reflects the city’s importance as a primary gateway for the movement of goods between the U.S. and Mexico, particularly for industries that depend on efficient and reliable cross-border logistics.
The Laredo Bridge System remains a critical component of that performance, enabling daily commercial flows that support manufacturing, automotive, electronics, energy, and other sectors closely tied to North American supply chains. Its role goes beyond infrastructure alone, serving as a pillar of economic stability and binational coordination in one of the continent’s most active trade corridors.
A week designed to highlight infrastructure and public engagement
International Bridge Week will also showcase the broader impact of Laredo’s bridge network through a series of public events tied to infrastructure, community participation, and operational excellence. One of the featured activities will be the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the renovated World Trade Bridge office, underscoring the city’s continued investment in facilities that support border efficiency and trade operations.
The agenda will also include the Bridge the Distance 5K Run and 1K Walk, an event intended to connect the community with the infrastructure that shapes daily life in Laredo and supports the region’s international profile. Together, these activities are meant to raise awareness of the bridge system’s significance while recognizing the work of the personnel and stakeholders who help maintain safe and efficient operations.
