The presence of companies like SpaceX, NextDecade, and the Port of Brownsville in Brownsville, Texas, highlights the region's competitive advantages for investment, development, and economic growth.
A group of business leaders, developers, economic development promoters, and officials participated in a business tour organized by the Greater Brownsville Incentives Corporation (GBIC) in partnership with the Rio Grande Valley Partnership (RGV Partnership). The tour provided insight into key sites associated with some of the region’s most significant firms and projects.
Led by Eleazar Rodríguez, GBIC's Director of Industrial Parks and Special Projects Development, the participants visited SpaceX's Starbase facilities, exemplifying the strength of the aerospace sector. SpaceX's operations have become a global benchmark for innovation, technology, and development, especially with its space rocket launches.
The tour also emphasized the Port of Brownsville's critical role in foreign trade. As the only deep-water port on the U.S.-Mexico border, the port achieved a new commercial record in 2024, surpassing $7 billion in exports and over $3.2 billion in imports.
Participants also visited the site where NextDecade’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant will be developed in Brownsville, considered the largest LNG export investment in the United States, with a budget exceeding $18.4 billion for its first phase.
The tour also highlighted other industrial sector projects, including the development of a 118-acre industrial park within the port, the expansion of navigation channels, the presence of a railway line, and the port's extensive capacity to handle containers from around the world. Discussions also covered expansions and growth projects at the North Brownsville Industrial Park, particularly in manufacturing, with plans to develop more industrial parks in the region.
