Space X to Launch First Manned Rocket to Mars from Rio Grande Valley, Texas

Announcing the groundbreaking development during the "Space Talk" event hosted by the Harlingen Economic Development Corporation (Harlingen EDC), Kathy Lueders, General Manager of Starbase at Space X, revealed that the first manned rocket to Mars will be launched from the Rio Grande Valley, Texas.

Highlighting the multifaceted efforts undertaken at the Boca Chica beach base in Brownsville, Lueders emphasized the rigorous testing of rockets like the "Starship" and the pursuit of specialized studies and projects essential for this future mission.

Underscoring the pivotal collaboration with entities like Harlingen EDC, Lueders emphasized its crucial role in bolstering workforce development, fostering cross-border collaboration, and creating opportunities. "The city of Harlingen has emerged as a significant ally in sourcing skilled professionals for the aerospace industry. Our establishment in this region has provided us with numerous competitive advantages, leading us to believe that Mars missions can be launched from here. Manned rocket tests have already commenced, and we will continue to refine our techniques."

At the heart of "Space Talk" were Space X's projects, as Harlingen EDC convened the meeting to broaden collaboration opportunities among entrepreneurs, associations, binational organizations, and the aerospace industry.

Orlando Campos, CEO of Harlingen EDC, underscored the educational opportunities for this sector, such as professional training and specialized engineering courses offered by universities. "We aim to collaborate with Space X on future projects. We have a strong relationship that allows us to address their needs, including education. Additionally, Harlingen contributes to the quality of life and cost accessibility for individuals working in this industry."

Campos highlighted Harlingen's facilitation of cross-border trade through streamlined logistical processes, with cargo airports, road connections, and international bridges enhancing accessibility.

Texas State Technical College (TSTC), serving as the host, echoed the message of educational collaboration.

Space X currently employs over 2,100 full-time employees and contractors in Texas and has invested $3 billion in infrastructure through the Brownsville-based Starbase headquarters since 2014.
