Harlingen EDC highlights regional impact of workforce alliance in Cameron County
May 5, 2026
Harlingen Economic Development Corporation CEO Orlando Campos said the collaboration among cities within Cameron County marks a new approach to regional economic development.
The agreement represents an opportunity to coordinate efforts and jointly address labor market challenges.
The strength of a regional workforce
Campos emphasized that no single municipality can meet the workforce demand required by large-scale investments.
“No single community can provide the entire workforce for a company. It requires a regional effort,” he said.
This shared vision will help support large projects that require diverse and specialized talent.
Direct benefits for residents
Beyond the business impact, the agreement seeks to improve opportunities for local residents.
“This allows us to share information and make sure our communities know what opportunities exist,” Campos said.
The collaboration will make it easier for residents to access new jobs generated across the region.
Economic development with social impact
Campos stressed that the goal goes beyond attracting investment.
“Economic development is not only about generating wealth for cities, but also for residents,” he said.
A multiplier effect for the entire region
The success of one city will benefit the whole county.
“If one community attracts a company, the entire region wins because more jobs and better wages are created,” he said.
Through this strategy, Cameron County seeks to consolidate itself as an integrated economic ecosystem, capable of competing for investment and offering better labor conditions for its population.
