The Greater Brownsville Economic Development Corporation (GBEDC) expanded its international investment outreach through participation in the SelectUSA ASEAN Roadshow, a mission designed to connect global investors with U.S. economic development organizations.

During the multi-country initiative, GBEDC promoted the Greater Brownsville region as a competitive location for international companies seeking entry into the U.S. market, highlighting its strategic border location, trade connectivity, and growing industrial ecosystem.

Showcasing Brownsville to ASEAN Investors

The mission included stops in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and the Philippines, where U.S. economic development organizations engaged directly with companies exploring expansion opportunities in the United States.

GBEDC representatives delivered presentations, participated in panel discussions, and held meetings with prospective investors evaluating potential locations for North American operations. These engagements allowed the organization to position Brownsville as a gateway connecting global supply chains with the U.S.–Mexico trade corridor.

Strengthening International Recruitment Strategy

As part of the program, the delegation also met with U.S. diplomatic representatives in Southeast Asia, including officials from the U.S. Embassy Kuala Lumpur, gaining valuable insights into regional investment trends and opportunities.

Such interactions help refine Brownsville’s international recruitment strategy by identifying sectors and companies actively considering U.S. expansion.

SelectUSA as a Platform for Global Investment Attraction

The SelectUSA initiative, led by the U.S. Department of Commerce, plays a central role in connecting international companies with investment opportunities across American communities. Through global roadshows and the annual SelectUSA Investment Summit, the program facilitates dialogue between investors, economic development organizations, and service providers.

Participation in missions like the ASEAN Roadshow allows communities such as Brownsville to present their economic strengths on a global stage and build relationships that can translate into future investment projects.

Positioning Brownsville for Global Growth

For the Greater Brownsville region, engagement in international investment missions supports long-term economic development by expanding visibility among global manufacturers, logistics firms, and technology companies.

As cross-border trade and nearshoring continue reshaping supply chains across North America, Brownsville’s strategic location—combined with proactive international outreach—positions the region as an increasingly attractive destination for companies seeking a foothold in the U.S. market.
