Regional coordination and shared vision took center stage during the State of the Council of Governments Address hosted by the Lower Rio Grande Valley Development Council (LRGVDC), an event that highlighted collective progress and priorities across the Rio Grande Valley.

The address, delivered by Norie Gonzalez Garza, President of the LRGVDC Board, provided an overview of regional initiatives and emphasized the importance of cross-jurisdictional collaboration to support long-term economic development, infrastructure planning, and community growth throughout the Valley.

Edinburg EDC’s Active Role in Regional Leadership

The Edinburg Economic Development Corporation was actively represented at the event, underscoring its commitment to working alongside regional partners to advance shared economic objectives. Veronica Gonzalez, Edinburg EDC Board Director, and Karina Lopez, Assistant Executive Director, joined EDC staff in representing Edinburg’s economic development interests.

They were joined by Mayor Omar Ochoa and City of Edinburg staff, as well as regional leaders including Hidalgo County Judge Richard Cortez and Hidalgo County Precinct 4 Commissioner Ellie Torres. Their presence reflected a unified approach to addressing regional challenges and opportunities through collaboration rather than isolated efforts.

Strengthening the Rio Grande Valley Through Collaboration

The event reinforced the role of regional organizations such as LRGVDC in aligning municipalities, counties, and economic development entities around common goals. Continued coordination across sectors is essential to advancing projects that support mobility, workforce development, investment attraction, and quality of life across the Rio Grande Valley.

Leadership from LRGVDC Executive Director Manuel Cruz was also recognized for guiding initiatives that promote cooperation and strategic planning at a regional scale.

By participating in forums like this, Edinburg EDC continues to position itself as an engaged regional partner—one that recognizes collaboration as a critical driver of sustainable economic growth and long-term competitiveness for the Rio Grande Valley.
