At the SelectUSA event, the CEO of COSTEP (Council for South Texas Economic Progress), Adam González, emphasized the importance of attracting industrial investment to the region. COSTEP is a nonprofit organization that promotes economic growth in South Texas by providing access to critical data, connecting businesses with strategic partners, and leveraging economic incentives to encourage expansion and job creation in the area.

According to González, events like SelectUSA are crucial for showcasing the region’s potential. “These kinds of events are essential to attract more industry and to make the industry aware of the region. We have much to offer them in the capital: competitive advantages, collaboration, workforce, infrastructure, and easy trade. COSTEP’s mission is to invite site selectors to visit the area and familiarize themselves with the various organizations that can facilitate the establishment of new operations in the region.”

Key Sectors and Competitive Advantages
The CEO emphasized COSTEP’s strategic focus on sectors of high importance for the regional economy. “First and foremost, we are focused on the automotive, aerospace, medical, energy, and electronics manufacturing industries.” He also highlighted the strength of the region’s workforce. “On one hand, we have a young, highly skilled workforce thanks to world-class education systems on both sides of the border; on the other hand, the manufacturing sector in Mexico has over 60 years of experience.”

González pointed out that the region’s competitive advantages are numerous. “There are many advantages, and not just for Mexicans—everyone should consider this region a highly profitable investment destination for their business. Every manufacturing operation requires distribution, and we are at the heart of the distribution area. You can easily reach Canada and all parts of the United States. It’s a very central area, with a strong workforce, and we are ready for manufacturing.”

A Call to Invest
Adam González’s speech at SelectUSA reaffirmed COSTEP’s commitment to positioning the region as a top industrial hub. The strategy relies on leveraging South Texas’ strategic geographic location, its distribution infrastructure, and the synergy between the public and private sectors, with the goal of transforming the region into a preferred destination for foreign investment and industrial expansion.

With this momentum, COSTEP will continue to work on promoting initiatives and programs that facilitate the relocation, expansion, and creation of new industrial projects in order to strengthen the region’s economic dynamism and competitiveness.
