In 2025, new flight connections are coming to the Rio Grande Valley, Texas, as Valley International Airport (VIA) in Harlingen introduces a new route to Minneapolis, Minnesota, operated by Delta Airlines.

Nicolás J. Mirman, VIA’s Chief Commercial Officer, stated that the start date for this service is still being finalized, as are details about whether the route will be direct or include layovers, along with the flight frequencies throughout the year.

With this new route, VIA aims to surpass its 2024 record of 1 million passengers, supported by a projected 15% increase in available seats for 2025.

Currently, VIA offers nonstop flights to cities such as Dallas-Fort Worth, Chicago, Austin, Houston, Cancún, and Denver through airlines including American Airlines, Delta Airlines, Sun Country, and United Airlines.

One of the airport’s key competitive advantages, according to Mirman, is its cost accessibility, bolstered by its strategic location. “Our fares are the second-lowest in the state of Texas. Virtually all our routes have at least two competitors, ensuring the most affordable prices.”

Additionally, VIA boasts optimal infrastructure for its runways, allowing for uninterrupted operations even under adverse weather conditions. “This increases the reliability of all flights at our airport. Furthermore, we’ve established ourselves as a viable alternative landing site in the region.”

Regarding cargo flights, Mirman highlighted that VIA is the only airport in the Rio Grande Valley offering FedEx and DHL services. These flights, operated on wide-body Boeing 767 aircraft, include two to five daily departures, further solidifying the airport’s position as a regional logistics hub.
