The City of Laredo has officially formalized its Communications and Marketing Department, integrating public information, community engagement, marketing, and multimedia services under unified leadership to meet the needs of a growing community. The consolidated department, which began operations on October 1, aims to strengthen citywide communication through shared resources and better coordination.

Felipe G. Romero III Named Director

Felipe G. Romero III has been appointed Director of Communications and Marketing. Romero brings over a decade of public-sector and executive leadership experience, having previously directed marketing for Port Laredo to promote international trade and economic development. His municipal background includes serving as Director of Communications and Marketing for Pflugerville and establishing the communications department in Brownsville, where he managed public information during major emergencies.

At the state level, Romero served as deputy director at the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs, helping oversee hundreds of millions in federal assistance. His work has earned national recognition from organizations like Ragan, PR Daily, and the MarCom Awards.

A Unified Focus for Laredo

City Manager Joseph Neeb emphasized that the integration builds on existing strengths: “Our employees have been doing exceptional work communicating with the people of Laredo, and this consolidation gives us an opportunity to build on that foundation.”

Romero echoed this, stating, “This department is not starting from zero. We are building on the dedication, creativity and expertise of talented professionals... Our responsibility now is to bring those strengths together [and] expand what we can accomplish.”

Strategic Priorities

The new department’s initial priorities include enhancing emergency public information readiness, improving digital outreach, and increasing awareness of municipal programs. As Laredo continues its robust growth, the department is gearing up to launch new communications initiatives for 2027 while strengthening relationships with local media and community stakeholders.

The Same Commitment. New Opportunities for Our Industry.

With the consolidation of the Communications and Marketing Department, Felipe G. Romero III expands his leadership responsibilities at the municipal level while maintaining his active participation in Port Laredo's strategies to strengthen ties with the manufacturing industry in Mexico and North America.

The City continues working hand in hand with manufacturers, export companies, and industrial leaders to boost competitiveness, facilitate strategic connections, and position Laredo as a key ally for growth and commercial expansion into the United States.

New stage. Same alliances. A vision without borders.
