In an effort to promote public policies that curb the rising insurance costs for transportation companies—costs that have tripled in recent years—BTA Mexico, Lone Star Economic Alliance (LSEA), and RioPlex have joined forces.

LSEA is an organization dedicated to advancing public policies that reduce the cost of doing business, addressing harmful practices that jeopardize job creation in Texas. Representing over 850 employers and organizations, it includes Texans for Lawsuit Reform (TLR) within its ranks. Founded in 1994, TLR aims to end lawsuit abuse and is recognized for its key achievement in controlling excessive medical malpractice lawsuits in 2003.

During a meeting with nearly 50 transportation business owners from both sides of the border, representatives of LSEA and TLR, through BTA Mexico and RioPlex, discussed the strategy to influence Washington policymakers. The goal is to push for necessary reforms to prevent damage to companies caused by inflated medical tariffs in accident cases and rising insurance premiums.

Notable attendees from the transportation sector included José Edgar Zamorano Santillán, CANACAR Reynosa Delegate; María Nuria Ruiz García, CANACAR Matamoros Delegate; and Jorge Lozano Saldaña, Representative of the Reynosa Transporters Association. They shared their experiences and agreed on the urgency of addressing this issue to prevent business closures due to such lawsuits.

“This is an innovative idea—to come together and find ways to stop these senseless increases, which are an abuse by insurance companies and the lawsuits they face from attorneys,” said Jorge Lozano Saldaña, Representative of the Reynosa Transporters Association.

“What we’re trying to do is control costs so that more insurance companies come to the Valley. As was mentioned earlier, there are currently only two companies providing insurance to transport businesses, and we need more competition to lower prices,” said Joe A. García, representative of LSEA.

Finally, they called on all business owners involved to participate in joint campaigns of this kind to stop such abuses. Through dialogue with policymakers, the fight for fairer rates, and compliance with DOT inspections, businesses can avoid becoming easy targets for attorneys.
