Brownsville, Texas builds advanced manufacturing and technology industrial park

The City of Brownsville has launched a major initiative set to become a milestone in the industrial and economic development of the region: the construction of the Greater Brownsville Tech District. This 730 acre complex will host advanced manufacturing companies, responding to the growing demand for suppliers by major corporations such as SpaceX and Amazon.

With an investment of $500 million, this new industrial park, located at FM511 SH550 between Old Alice Road and Paredes Line Road, will feature, in its first phase, 13 buildings of 1,000 square feet each and has the potential to create between 2,000 and 4,000 jobs.

“As Mayor, this represents opportunity for our people, it means high-quality jobs. We want to attract manufacturing companies to add value to Brownsville and support industry. This project is a major success for the city”, said John Cowen, Mayor of Brownsville.

According to Gilberto Salinas, CEO of the Greater Brownsville Incentives Corporation (GBIC), the construction of this industrial park marks the beginning of a new chapter for Brownsville, characterized by the arrival of new suppliers following the large corporations that have established themselves in the city.

“We are seeing a lot of demand right now. Suppliers are already looking to follow these giant companies. That’s exactly what this industrial park is for—to capture all these suppliers who will soon be coming our way. Even conservative estimates place the annual economic impact at between $4 to $5 billion,” he emphasized.

Located less than 2 miles from I-69, 8 miles from the Port of Brownsville, 10 miles from the airport, and 27 miles from SpaceX, the Greater Brownsville Tech District is poised to become the gateway to a new industrial corridor positioning Brownsville as a center of innovation, industry, and strategic growth in the Rio Grande Valley.

During the groundbreaking ceremony, Gilberto Salinas acknowledged the efforts of the entire GBIC team, especially Eleazar Rodríguez, Director of Industrial Park Development and Special Projects, calling him the driving force behind the initiative.

With the construction of the Greater Brownsville Tech District, the City of Brownsville takes a decisive step forward in its transformation through industrial development, solidifying its position as a strategic hub for investment in advanced manufacturing.
