One of the first companies focused on the automotive industry that arrived in the country to trust Mexican workforce specially the one from Jalisco BorgWarner, settled in El Salto more than 50 years ago.
Mirko Frigerio, general director of the plant in Guadalajara, talked with Mexico Industry about the history of Borgwarner.
“BorgWarner Corporation was founded in 1928, among the founder companies are Borg & Beck, Marbel Schebler, Warner Gear and Mechanics Universal Joint. We are dedicated to developing automotive products that support a clean world and with higher energy efficiency.
Particularly, the plant in El Salto Jalisco has more than 50 years in the area and we are dedicated to the manufacturing of time string, oil pump and HY-VO; transmission components for different automotive brands.
The company has 66 locations present in 18 countries, including the United States, Mexico, Brazil, Germany, among others,” said the directive.
BorgWarner, is concern about their environment and that is why they help populations nearby their plant in El Salto and Juanacatlan, in addition of the rest of the Metropolitan Area of Guadalajara.
“We have a Support Committee to the Community which is fulfilling activities all the time which impact the community of el Salto and in the Metropolitan Area of Guadalajara.”
“For example, last year we collected more than 800 kilos of covers for the Civil Organization ‘Tapitas Bank,’ who are dedicated to finance treatments for children with cancer. Thanks to the enthusiasm of our employees, we implement activities to perform this collection the entire year. This year we intent to participate in the reforestation of El Bosque La Primavera, among many other activities we have in our calendar in the Community Support Committee.
The American company currently has two ethical value certifications.
“Safety and the environment are very important for us at BorgWarner, proof of this is our certification as Clean Industry and Safe Industry, granted by the Federal Government last year,” he said.
Additionally, they are continuously investing in their workers training and in technology development.
“We manage talent so seriously, as we manage our business. We strive every day to incentivize personal and professional growth of our collaborators. The company reinvests continuously in their business and their people, we do not release specific amounts for competitive reasons,” he noted.
Numbers in 2018 were encouraging for Frigerio, who underlined the double digit growth and they expect to continue growing this 2019
“Our production grew two digits compared with 2017. It was a great year, we are grateful with the workforce in this plant and we are sure that 2019 will be a year of good results.”
In addition, Frigerio underlined that for this year they have great projects to guide.
“We are focused on operations here, today and building the best quality products we can. We have projects that will be very important for our plant in 2019.”
Regarding Industry 4.0 issues they are completely adapted to human-machine changes.
“Having a trained workforce which can adapt to factories of the future and in a stable regulatory environment that companies can plan and invest in a long term,” he noted.
