BD inaugurates medical device plant in Baja California

Becton, Dickinson and Company (BD), a leading global medical technology company , has opened its second manufacturing facility in Tijuana , where it will produce devices and technologies that will help improve drug safety within healthcare settings.

In an interview, Reginald Mingot, BD Vice President of Operations and Integrated Supply Chain , indicated that this second plant involved an investment of 38.6 million dollars, due to the exponential growth that the medical device industry has experienced globally.

These new facilities have an area of ​​15,775 square meters and it is estimated that 500 new jobs will be generated over the next two years. At the moment, he said, phase one starts with 75 jobs.

The manager explained that BD  will be dedicated to the manufacture of 100 daily automated dispensing cabinets , which are used by health professionals to provide medicines to patients.

The estimated growth of these products is between 9% and 10% per year, and whose production will be exported to countries in North America, Europe, Africa and Asia.

The demand has been such, he stressed, that the corporation saw the need to open this second production plant which will be dedicated exclusively to manufacturing automated drug dispensing cabinets , since they are highly requested in hospitals to have control.

BD  's Vice President of Operations and Integrated Supply Chain assured that the company has confidence in Tijuana and Mexico to expand its operations, hence this second plant joins a staff of around 5,000 employees that it maintains at its original plant. .

For his part, Julio Duclos, vice president and general director of Mexico, the Caribbean and Central America of BD , indicated that the new plant in Tijuana is the twelfth of the corporate in Mexico, being a testimony of its commitment to the country and the solid relationship that has been built with communities for the past 65 years.

“BD's 17,000 employees in Mexico are focused on producing high-quality medical devices that are used by healthcare providers and patients around the world. We hope to continue growing in the country, ”she highlighted.

He affirmed that the expansion of the infrastructure in Tijuana is part of a four-year strategic plan in which the company will invest 1.2 billion dollars to expand and improve its technology and production capacity in various regions of the world, including Mexico.

“BD has been a leader in leveraging cross-border efficiencies being created in the Tijuana-San Diego region and this new facility will continue to help the company streamline our operations by combining a manufacturing site, distribution center and the means to deliver products to the end customer in one place,” said Puneet Sarin, President of Medication Management Solutions for BD .

"With this, BD can continue to focus on advancing the world of healthcare by developing new technologies that improve the way medications are stored, dispensed and administered to help ensure optimal outcomes."

The managers explained that in the new plant steps will be taken to obtain the ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Risk and Management, Safe Company, ISO 45001 Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems, Clean Industry, Smoke-Free Company C -TPAT, BSI ISO 13485, MDSAP, CSA and Intertek.
