Axtel activates a new 1,100 km fiber optic route connecting Querétaro to Texas, enhancing Mexico’s digital infrastructure to support AI, cloud, and global tech platforms.

Axtel, a leading digital infrastructure operator in Mexico, has activated a new cross-border fiber optic route directly linking Querétaro to Texas. Spanning more than 1,100 kilometers, this deployment marks the first phase of a multi-year technological renewal strategy designed to position Mexico as a key regional digital hub.

Armando de la Peña, CEO of Axtel, emphasized that this initiative is “only the beginning of a plan that will define the future of connectivity in Mexico,” with a focus on network resilience, proximity, and the ability to meet the evolving demands of the digital era.

Fiber Optic Infrastructure for the New Digital Economy

This route strengthens Mexico’s critical infrastructure supporting applications such as artificial intelligence, cloud computing, e-commerce, and ultra-high-resolution services. It also reinforces Axtel’s role as a direct enabler between Mexico-based data centers and global tech platforms.

With over 53,000 kilometers of fiber optic cable deployed across Mexico, Axtel connects the country’s main digital content and service providers—both domestic and international. The company continues to expand this network by adding 2,000 kilometers annually using scalable technology, open architecture, and compatibility with next-generation submarine cables.

The network’s architecture supports up to 1.2 terabits per second (Tbps) and includes real-time automation processes, positioning Axtel as a strategic partner for industries that require high-performance connectivity, including financial services, advanced manufacturing, artificial intelligence, and enterprise cloud platforms.
