The aerospace industry presents a vast landscape of opportunities, particularly in the development of new manufacturing chains and the enhancement of the workforce in the binational region of the Rio Grande Valley, Texas, and northern Tamaulipas, emphasized Ralph Garcia, Vice President of International Business Recruitment at the McAllen Economic Development Corporation (McAllen EDC).

“As a binational region, we recognize the significant growth the aerospace industry has experienced in recent years and its future impact. We are establishing new relationships to strengthen everything from production lines to the workforce. We want to see that development expand here in our region,” he stated.

Workers, through the available private and public educational offerings that include tailored training programs, technology, and innovation, can acquire new skills and update their technical knowledge to meet market demands.

Meanwhile, companies looking for industrial space will find available land in this region, along with various logistical advantages that contribute to efficient processes.

Opportunities in the supply chain

Another benefit is the development of supply chains where companies can integrate to provide specialized manufacturing services, parts, and materials to this industry, Garcia highlighted.

Garcia noted that companies in the Reynosa, Tamaulipas, and McAllen, Texas, area are already providing services to major aerospace firms, such as SpaceX.

“Creating new opportunities for local suppliers in the aerospace industry is highly beneficial for job creation and attracting new investments. With success stories like SpaceX, we can further reinforce interest and the quality of manufacturing,” he commented.

This region is also home to global aerospace companies like Flex, General Electric Aviation, Kearfott and SpaceX.

Challenges of the aerospace industry

Retaining local talent is one of the challenges posed by the growth opportunities, which are being addressed through joint efforts with universities and business leaders to prevent brain drain, Garcia explained.

“Currently, there are major companies and organizations like NASA that are taking note of everything we can offer the industry. We have positive expectations that the aerospace sector will continue to strengthen through teamwork,” he concluded.
