The City of Weslaco continues to advance as a center of sustained economic growth in South Texas, supported by a development strategy that balances capital investment, job creation, and workforce readiness. Through coordinated efforts led by the Weslaco Economic Development Corporation, the city has strengthened its economic base while expanding opportunities for local businesses and residents.

Over the FY 2024–2025 period, Weslaco maintained steady activity across multiple sectors, including retail, industrial, technology, and small business development. During this time, the Weslaco EDC managed 22 active projects, which together generated 155 new jobs and $13.7 million in capital investment within the city—figures that reflect consistent progress despite a more cautious national investment environment.

Rather than relying on a single growth driver, Weslaco’s development pipeline reflects a diversified approach that supports both commercial expansion and long-term urban vitality.

Investing in People as a Foundation for Growth

In parallel with capital development, Weslaco placed a strong emphasis on human capital as a core pillar of its economic strategy. Throughout the fiscal year, more than 31 local businesses enhanced their operations through EDC-supported training and workforce development programs.

These initiatives represented a combined investment of $81,222 in workforce training and business development, helping companies strengthen productivity and prepare for evolving market needs.

By aligning workforce programs with employer demand, Weslaco continues to ensure that economic growth translates into real opportunity—equipping workers with relevant skills while supporting business competitiveness.

A Comprehensive Development Strategy

In total, the Weslaco EDC supported 53 projects during the fiscal year, encompassing capital investment initiatives, business support programs, and workforce training efforts. This breadth of activity highlights a comprehensive approach to economic development—one that recognizes the interconnected roles of infrastructure, talent, entrepreneurship, and private investment.

Together, these efforts reinforce Weslaco’s position as a regional hub for steady growth, entrepreneurship, and community-focused development.

Looking Ahead with Confidence

With a solid foundation in place, Weslaco is positioned to build on this momentum by expanding partnerships, modernizing incentives, and advancing infrastructure projects that support high-value industries such as manufacturing, logistics, and technology. At the same time, the city remains committed to supporting small businesses and emerging entrepreneurs as essential contributors to its economic future.

Weslaco’s trajectory reflects a city focused not only on growth metrics, but on creating an environment where businesses can invest with confidence, workers can build careers, and families can thrive over the long term.
