During the Sinergias Summit 2025, organized by the Pharr Economic Development Corporation in Monterrey, Texas State Representative Terry Canales, who represents District 40, highlighted the growing economic relevance of South Texas and the strategic role the region plays in its relationship with Mexico.

Texas and Nuevo León deepen economic integration

Canales emphasized that proximity to Nuevo León—one of the most competitive industrial regions in the continent—fuels a unique dynamic of trade, investment, and regional development. For the legislator, maintaining strong communication with Monterrey and San Pedro Garza García is essential:

“It is essential to stay connected with our neighbors here in Monterrey… it is the greatest concentration of wealth in Latin America, and Nuevo León is key to building the future of Texas,” he stated.

Pharr as a strategic node for binational trade

The state representative noted that Pharr is consolidating itself as a decisive logistics hub—not only for the Rio Grande Valley but for the future growth of Texas. He explained that opportunities for companies, investors, and strategic partners continue to expand thanks to modern infrastructure, trade-facilitation policies, and deeper integration with Mexico.

He also underscored that industries and materials originating in Nuevo León are essential for Texas’ development, reinforcing the need for a more agile, secure, and efficient cross-border business environment.

Looking ahead, Canales was clear: “Pharr will be integral to the development of the Rio Grande Valley and the entire state.” In his view, the coming decades will be defined by deeper binational collaboration anchored in investment, shared supply chains, and an increasingly complementary industrial ecosystem.

For the legislator, the Texas–Mexico relationship is not only about geographic proximity—it is a critical economic alliance that shapes North America’s competitiveness and guides the region’s long-term development.
