Tamaulipas closed the year 2021 with 1,336 million dollars of Foreign Direct Investment

The Ministry of Economy reported that, from January to December 2021, Mexico attracted 31,612 million dollars of foreign direct investment (FDI).
He announced that the preliminary FDI for January-December 2021 came from 3,801 companies with foreign capital participation; 5,435 trust agreements; and 26 foreign legal entities. In addition, it is integrated as follows:
• BY TYPE OF INVESTMENT (origin of financing): through reinvestment of profits, 38.6%; for new investments, 43.7%; and for intercompany accounts, 17.7 percent.
• BY SECTOR : manufacturing, 39.7%; mining, 15.2%; financial and insurance services, 15%; transportation, 8.8%; trade, 8.5%; and temporary accommodation services, 5.2 percent.
• BY COUNTRY OF ORIGIN: United States, 47.5%; Spain, 13.7%; Canada, 6.5%; UK, 5.7%; Germany, 5.2%; and Japan, 5.0%; other countries contributed the remaining 16.4%.
TAMAULIPAS CLOSED 2021 WITH 1,336 MDD OF FOREIGN INVESTMENT
In 2021, direct foreign investment in Tamaulipas reached more than 1,336.2 million dollars, double what was obtained in 2019; however, it was 18% below the maximum accumulated by the entity, obtained in 2019.
2021 stood out for the increase in foreign exchange through companies that arrived as new investments or by those that completed expansion projects by reinvesting their capital; this reached 636.6 million dollars more and therefore represents a 48% increase.
From October to December 2021, they landed 160 million dollars. The arrival of capital from abroad to the entity recovered part of the flow registered before the health emergency. Two years ago, it was concluded at 1,623.1 million dollars.
HIGHLIGHTS THE ENERGY INDUSTRY
Oil, gas and electricity were the sectors that registered the greatest activity. The energy industry that encompasses the extraction of oil and gas, as well as the installation and generation of electricity, invested 51.1 million dollars in Tamaulipas; in fact, it was placed above the manufacturing industry, which registered 543.1 million dollars.
Companies originating in the US applied more resources in the last 12 months and reached 521.1 million dollars; Spain followed, with 156.5 million dollars; United Kingdom, with 108 million dollars, as well as Canada that appeared among the top 5 with 93.9 million dollars.
