The company's operations along with the relocation of its corporate headquarters from California to Starbase, Texas, have injected billions of dollars into the local economy while creating thousands of high-paying jobs, many filled by residents from communities such as Brownsville, Harlingen, San Benito, Los Fresnos, and Port Isabel.
Local economic impact
Between 2024 and 2026, the company’s operations are projected to generate $13 billion dollars in gross output, with over $350 million dollars in indirect taxes that support schools, public services, and infrastructure across the region.
SpaceX currently employs over 4,000 workers at its Starbase facilities in Cameron County, with approximately 70% from the area. Starbase plans to nearly double its workforce to around 8,000 employees in 2026, supporting 24,000 local jobs overall and providing opportunities for non-degree holders to advance. Additionally, the relocation of SpaceX’s headquarters to the area signals long-term investment in the Rio Grande Valley, with plans for thousands more jobs, workforce training, and public-private collaborations for aerospace growth.
