Prysmian Invests $27 million in Mexico; will expand its fiber optic plant in Durango

Grupo Prysmian announced a new investment in Mexico, by injecting capital of $ 27 million to expand its cable and fiber optic manufacturing plant in Durango.
The Italian company specialized in the manufacture of electrical and telecommunications cables has been in the country for more than 40 years , with six plants and more than 1,650 employees.
The Prysmian telecommunications factory in this state was inaugurated in 2017, produces fiber and optical cables used in the telecommunications sector, to make possible internet access and connectivity services for communities, residential areas, companies and industries.
With the expansion, the current volume is expected to double from 2.5 to 5 million kilometers of fiber optics per year, which will strengthen the company's leadership position as a key and strategic player in this segment.
Marcelo De Paola, president and CEO of Grupo Prysmian in Mexico, commented that in the face of this new investment they are committed to their customers, so the Durango plant is getting ready to obtain the best highly trained talent in the manufacture of this product .
The project is projected to be completed in 2022 and would make Prysmian's Durango plant one of the group's three largest in telecommunications.
Currently, the production of fiber optic cable is carried out by more than 130 specialized collaborators, and with the expansion, 100 jobs will be added and the necessary training will be given by international and local experts.
The Durango plant represents a key piece for the Group towards a future led by sustainability, renewable energy and connectivity.
Grupo Prysmian is a world leader in the sector of cable systems for energy and telecommunications, has more than 140 years of experience in the business of underground and submarine cables and power transmission and distribution systems, special cables for applications in various industries. and medium and low voltage cables for the construction and infrastructure sectors.
For the telecommunications sector, it manufactures cables and accessories for the transmission of voice, video and data, offering a wide range of optical fibers, optical and copper cables and connectivity systems.
In Mexico, Prysmian has six plants located in the states of Coahuila, Sonora, Tlaxcala and Durango , three in the latter region, which manufacture cable and fiber optics for the electrical energy, telecommunications, construction, automotive and aerospace segments.
