Port Laredo Launches Global Trade Summit to Connect Investment, Logistics and Foreign Trade

The City of Laredo is seeking to further consolidate its position as the leading land port in the United States with the first edition of the *Global Trade Summit*, an event that will bring together specialists in international trade, logistics, infrastructure, technology, investment and economic development.

The event will take place from *July 12 to 14 at the Laredo Performing Arts Center* and is expected to gather more than 300 attendees, including business leaders, logistics providers, customs brokers, investors, industry executives and representatives from organizations linked to foreign trade.

Felipe Gabriel Romero, Marketing and Communications Director of Port Laredo, said the summit aims to showcase the city’s strategic capabilities as a key point for international trade, while creating new growth opportunities for local and regional companies.

“We are the number one port in North America, and we want to present the capabilities we have, but also bring the most recognized leaders in trade, logistics, infrastructure and technology to help grow the businesses in our community,” he said.

Laredo strengthens its strategic position in North American trade

Laredo’s geographic location has positioned the city as one of the most important logistics nodes in the continent, with direct connectivity to major markets across the United States, Mexico and Canada.

Gilberto Sánchez, Director of the Laredo International Airport, said this competitive advantage has turned the city into a strategic point for companies involved in international trade, goods distribution, logistics services and the expansion of binational operations.

In addition to addressing global industry trends, the Global Trade Summit will include technical panels for companies interested in starting, strengthening or expanding import and export operations between Mexico and the United States.

Economic development representatives agreed that the event comes at a key moment to analyze the regulatory changes affecting international trade and to strengthen the competitiveness of the U.S.-Mexico border corridor.

“It is a great opportunity to show people interested in continuing to expand foreign trade the importance of the Port of Laredo and the growth it continues to have despite the times we are living in,” said Rey Reyes, International Vice President of Business and Recruitment at Laredo Economic Development Corporation.

The summit seeks to drive investment and foreign trade growth

For representatives of the Association of Logistics and Forwarding Agents, ALFA, the event represents a historic opportunity to trigger new investment, strengthen collaboration among key industry players and prepare the region for the next stage of foreign trade growth.

Juan José García, Treasurer of ALFA, said the Global Trade Summit could become a point of reference to accelerate the attraction of business linked to logistics, infrastructure and international trade services.

“I think this is going to be a turning point to further boost foreign trade. The city has done a very good job, expansions are coming, it is preparing itself and we need to bring the work; and the work comes with this type of events that are being organized,” he said.

As the leading gateway for land trade between Mexico and the United States, Port Laredo aims to turn the Global Trade Summit into a strategic space to drive regional economic growth, strengthen logistics competitiveness and consolidate Laredo, Texas, as one of the most important engines of international trade in North America.
