Port Laredo Keeps Moving Forward: Trade Growth Continues During the USMCA Review

International trade through Port Laredo continues to show strong performance despite the uncertainty surrounding the review of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA). During the 2026 Port Laredo Global Trade Summit, Elsa Hinojosa, Director of Bridges for the City of Laredo, highlighted that the port closed 2025 with $350 billion in trade, $15 billion more than the previous year.

In addition to the growth recorded in 2025, Hinojosa reported that commercial crossings increased by 10% between January and April 2026, exceeding the expected annual growth rate of 5% to 6%. Currently, more than 17,000 trucks cross Laredo’s international bridges every day, further consolidating the city’s position as the leading inland port for trade between Mexico and the United States.

“Right now, our focus is on collaboration and teamwork. This Summit helps us greatly by allowing us to share needs, listen to different perspectives, and identify ways sister cities can support one another. Everything one city does affects the other, which is why we have to work together.”

Hinojosa noted that, beyond trade negotiations, the priority should be to strengthen coordination among government authorities, organizations, and the private sector on both sides of the border. She added that events such as the Global Trade Summit help generate joint solutions and reinforce a logistics ecosystem that benefits both Mexico and the United States.

Trade activity at Port Laredo confirms the resilience of North American supply chains and demonstrates that binational collaboration remains a key factor in maintaining the region’s competitiveness, even amid an uncertain trade environment.
