Pharr is entering a new stage in South Texas’ advanced manufacturing landscape with the expansion of Avant Technology, Inc., backed by a $4.83 million grant from the Texas Semiconductor Innovation Fund. The project will expand the company’s manufacturing facility in Pharr, creating 250 jobs and representing more than $20 million in capital investment.

The announcement is especially relevant for the Rio Grande Valley because it marks the first project in South Texas to receive TSIF grant funding, placing Pharr within Texas’ broader semiconductor growth strategy.

Pharr adds semiconductor capacity to its industrial profile

Avant Technology, headquartered in Pflugerville, specializes in the design and advanced manufacturing of semiconductor assemblies, including solid-state drives and memory modules. With the Pharr expansion, the company will produce more complex semiconductor assemblies for enterprise, automotive, and industrial markets.

For Pharr, the project brings a high-value manufacturing operation into a region often associated with logistics, trade, and cross-border activity. The investment broadens the city’s industrial profile and signals that the Rio Grande Valley can compete for projects tied to advanced manufacturing, electronics, and semiconductor supply chains.

Workforce development tied to real production needs

The project also includes a partnership with South Texas College, giving students hands-on access to equipment and practical experience in semiconductor electronics assembly, quality control, and advanced manufacturing skills.

That workforce component is central to the long-term value of the expansion. By connecting education directly with production requirements, Pharr is helping build the technical talent base needed to support more sophisticated industrial operations in South Texas.

The announcement also recognized the role of local leadership, including Ambrosio Hernandez, Mayor of Pharr, in attracting the investment to the region. For Pharr, Avant Technology’s expansion positions the city as an emerging participant in Texas’ semiconductor economy while creating new opportunities for skilled employment and industrial diversification.
