Laredo Motor Carriers Association Strengthens the Competitiveness of Cross-Border Transportation

Representing the voice of more than 250 trucking companies, promoting policies that strengthen the sector’s competitiveness, and preparing the workforce needed to support the growth of international trade are among the main priorities of the Laredo Motor Carriers Association (LMCA). During the Port Laredo Global Trade Summit 2026, the organization highlighted its role in strengthening the logistics and freight transportation industry along the U.S.–Mexico border.

Priscilla Johnson, Executive Director of the association, explained that LMCA serves as a liaison between motor carriers, government authorities, and regulatory agencies. Its work focuses on keeping the industry informed about regulatory changes, facilitating dialogue with different levels of government, and advocating for the conditions needed to maintain the competitiveness of the leading land port between Mexico and the United States.

As an example, Johnson highlighted the association’s participation in negotiations with the City of Laredo to moderate increases in international bridge tolls, a measure aimed at preserving the efficiency of freight transportation.

“We are proud to say that we are the voice of the industry because, together, we make that voice stronger. Our work is to represent motor carriers, develop solutions, and prepare the industry for the growth ahead.”

Bridge Expansions Will Increase Demand for Drivers

Johnson noted that one of the industry’s main challenges will be meeting the growing demand for commercial truck drivers resulting from the expansion of the World Trade Bridge and the Colombia Solidarity Bridge.

To address this need, the association is already working with educational institutions in Laredo to develop a program that will help bring a new generation of professional drivers into the transportation industry.

Training and Representation Strengthen Cross-Border Logistics

With more than 250 member companies and an ongoing agenda focused on training, industry collaboration, and business representation, the Laredo Motor Carriers Association has established itself as one of the leading transportation organizations along the border.

Its work contributes to maintaining supply chain efficiency, strengthening regional logistics, and supporting the growth of trade between Mexico, the United States, and the rest of North America.
