The Edinburg Economic Development Corporation (Edinburg EDC) took part in a regional meeting focused on economic and workforce development, joining public sector and institutional leaders in a discussion centered on long-term competitiveness across the Rio Grande Valley.

Hosted by Hidalgo County Judge Richard F. Cortez at the UTRGV Center for Innovation & Commercialization, the meeting brought together stakeholders to align priorities around workforce strategy, housing opportunities, regional coordination, and major investment projects shaping the future of South Texas.

Edinburg EDC Supports Regional Alignment

Edinburg EDC’s participation reflects the increasing importance of cross-county collaboration in building a more competitive regional economy. As investment decisions become more closely tied to workforce availability, infrastructure readiness, and quality-of-life factors, economic development efforts are increasingly strengthened through coordinated planning.

By engaging in these discussions, Edinburg continues positioning itself as an active contributor to broader regional strategies that support business attraction, expansion, and long-term job creation.

Workforce and Housing as Growth Priorities

Among the key topics discussed were workforce development and housing, two issues that have become central to economic competitiveness. Companies evaluating expansion opportunities are placing greater emphasis not only on labor availability, but also on whether regions can support population growth with adequate housing and community infrastructure.

Addressing these priorities through regional dialogue helps ensure that economic growth is supported by the conditions needed to sustain it over time.

Major Investments Shape the Valley’s Future

The conversation also included updates on major regional investments, including the Starbase rocket manufacturing project. High-profile industrial developments of this scale have implications that extend beyond a single community, influencing labor markets, supplier networks, infrastructure needs, and the overall investment profile of the Rio Grande Valley.

For Edinburg EDC, participating in these conversations is part of a broader effort to ensure the city remains aligned with the region’s evolving economic landscape and prepared to capture new opportunities generated by large-scale growth.

Building a More Competitive Rio Grande Valley

Regional coordination remains a critical factor in strengthening South Texas’ ability to compete for investment. When cities, counties, academic institutions, and economic development organizations work in alignment, they create a stronger platform for attracting capital, supporting employers, and expanding opportunity across the Valley.

Edinburg EDC’s presence at this meeting reinforces its commitment to collaborative leadership and to advancing strategies that support sustainable, region-wide economic development.
