Before members of the
directive board of Donna’s International Bridge, as well as businessmen and
local authorities, was held the official ceremony of the beginning of the
construction of expansion in the border crossing that connects the city of
Donna, Texas with Rio Bravo, Tamaulipas.
It is anticipated that
the international bridge will have the commercial lane in April 2020 which will
allow the crossing of 100 trucks per hour approximately.
Carlos Yerena, manager
of the city of Donna, Texas, presided the official ceremony in which was
announced the bridge expansion project which will have an investment of 60
million dollars and will include a command center, processing offices,
detention area, X-ray machines, commercial traffic lanes and inspection
stations that will allow American and Mexican authorities perform cargo
inspections in this side of the border.
“This is a big project
and one of the unique characteristics is that it will be a model project, many
bridges in the area have a different kind of technology to make the crossing
faster; however, this bridge will have two things that will make it unique,”
said Yerena.
One characteristic that
will distinguish this crossing is that it will have a joint inspection area,
this way, American authorities, as well as Mexican, will perform inspections in
the United States, this will speed-up crossings and trucks’ waiting time.
Another aspect that
will make this crossing unique is that it will have an investment of 12 million
dollars in high technology equipment, specialized to speed-up crossings.
