DHL Express invests 360 million dollars to improve infrastructure in the Americas region

DHL Express confirmed that it is investing more than 360 million dollars between 2020 and 2022 , in order to expand its operations and build new facilities in key growth markets within the Region of the Americas.
The global express service provider also intends to invest in measures to strengthen its air network in America , such as the introduction of new direct flight routes .
The capital injections come from the growth of B2C and B2B e-commerce shipments , where the countries in this region that stand out are the United States, Canada, Mexico, South and Central America and the Caribbean ; which experienced 33% more shipments per day in the first quarter of 2021 compared to the previous year.
Mike Parra, CEO of DHL Express Americas, stated that globalization continues to demonstrate its resilience, driven by digitization and global trade.
"With more consumers making their purchases online and the strong increase in companies that sell their products in the global market, we need to continue with critical investments in our network and infrastructure to meet the demands of growth in global commerce," he said. .
Many of the infrastructure investments will be focused on the company's facilities, including: service centers for receiving and delivery operations, gateways that manage the international dispatch of shipments, and hubs that operate as transfer points for shipments to and from regions. of the world.
One of the extended hub of art was to Miami, Florida, which is currently under construction and will be the sixth hub of DHL Express largest in the world by volume of international shipments defined time (TDI) .
Additionally, a new 244,000-square-foot automated facility in Hamilton, Canada is another significant investment. Once completed, the new center will be four times the size of the current one.
COMMITMENT TO MEXICO
In Mexico, DHL Express has an investment commitment of 300 million dollars from 2020 to 2025 , to support its operations that include the hiring and training of personnel, as well as the purchase of equipment and infrastructure.
Antonio Arranz, CEO of DHL Express Mexico, commented that despite the impact of the pandemic on the national economy, they managed to maintain a double-digit growth rate and increased to more than 715 points of sale throughout the country.
DHL Express will add new service centers and upgrade existing facilities across its regional network , to support first and last mile pickup and delivery operations , improving other hubs and gateways as well, and expanding its retail presence in North American markets. South.
In Mexico, significant investments will support the growing market for National / Domestic shipments with defined delivery time (TDD ), as well as actions that support the processing of first and last mile shipments; hubs and gateways will be upgraded with state-of-the-art automation in Mexico City, Guadalajara and Monterrey, and service centers will be expanded in key markets throughout the country.
BRAZIL MAR
In Brazil, the Viracops Gateway in Capinas will be updated to speed up the processing of time-bound international shipments to and from the country. And expansions are underway in other South American countries, including new retail service point locations in Chile and Colombia, and an expanded gateway in Lima, Peru.
All of these investments, which include new technologies to improve operational efficiency, will increase the volume capacity in the DHL Express Americas network by almost 30% by the end of 2022.
Since 2019, DHL Express has added 14 new 777Fs to its global fleet , which transit between the Americas region and the rest of the world. Of the original 14, four went live in 2019, six in 2020, and four will support the network this year. Eight additional aircraft will be added between 2022 and 2024.
The company has also increased its third-party aircraft lift (ACMI) for the Americas, as well as direct leasing of additional aircraft.
