Texas continues to solidify its position in advanced manufacturing and defense production as Davie Defense Inc. announced a major expansion of its shipbuilding operations in Galveston and Port Arthur. The project represents more than $730 million in capital investment and is expected to create over 2,400 new jobs, reinforcing the state’s growing role in national maritime and industrial capacity.

The expansion will focus on the construction of Arctic-capable icebreakers and other specialized vessels for U.S. government and commercial clients, marking a significant step in revitalizing domestic shipbuilding infrastructure.

Expanding Shipbuilding Capacity on the Texas Gulf Coast

Davie Defense plans to scale production capabilities across two strategic Gulf Coast locations, leveraging deep-water port access, established maritime infrastructure, and a skilled industrial workforce.

The company intends to position its Texas operations as a central hub for complex shipbuilding projects in the United States. Arctic icebreakers—vessels critical to national security, Arctic access, and strategic mobility—will form a cornerstone of the production portfolio.

To secure the expansion, the State of Texas extended a $21.77 million Texas Enterprise Fund (TEF) grant to Davie Defense.
