The Council for the Economic Progress of South Texas (COSTEP) has expressed interest in establishing joint working schemes with the productive sector of Matamoros, Tamaulipas, aiming to benefit the binational region that encompasses northern Tamaulipas and the Rio Grande Valley in Texas.

At a business conference organized by the Matamoros Economic Development Committee (Codem) at the Technological University of Matamoros (UTM), before leaders from the business community, associations, real estate developers, and academic representatives gathered to explore opportunities for cross-border collaboration, Adam Gonzalez, CEO of COSTEP, emphasized the importance of continuing regional promotional efforts to drive economic development.

At the meeting, David García, President of Codem, underscored the significance of maintaining and strengthening these binational partnerships to foster job creation and attract investment, ultimately benefiting the local population.

Mario Reyna, President of the Hidalgo County Prosperity Task Force, also contributed to the conversation by discussing the RioPlex initiative, which seeks to promote the binational region as a unified economic area.

UTM: Innovation and Technology for Workforce Development

As part of the event, participants toured UTM’s facilities, which are equipped with a variety of tools, programs, and educational models designed to enhance the region’s workforce, especially in Matamoros. The university trains professionals in innovation, technology, robotics, and productive systems, with a particular focus on meeting the needs of the manufacturing industry.

Codem acted as a key liaison in Matamoros to strengthen existing collaboration schemes and establish new connections that contribute to economic development and benefit the population.
