The Greater Brownsville Incentives Corporation (GBIC) and the City of Brownsville hosted another successful edition of Careers and Coffee, an annual job expo that has become one of South Texas’s leading workforce development events. Held at the Brownsville Events Center, this year’s edition connected thousands of job seekers with employers from across key regional industries.

Connecting talent with opportunity

With more than 7,000 job openings available, Careers and Coffee 2025 brought together companies from sectors such as manufacturing, healthcare, education, public service, and technology, offering attendees the chance to meet recruiters, apply for positions, and even interview on-site.

Beyond job placement, the event created a space for networking, learning, and professional growth. Participants had access to free headshots, resume guidance, and real-time application support — all while engaging in conversations with leading employers who are helping shape Brownsville’s economic future.

John Cowen Jr., Mayor of Brownsville, highlighted the importance of creating pathways that keep local talent connected to opportunity.

“Events like Careers and Coffee show what happens when a community invests in its people. We’re helping residents grow their careers right here in Brownsville — and that’s how we build a stronger local economy.”

A growing platform for workforce development

The initiative, organized by GBIC as part of its broader talent development strategy, continues to expand each year, attracting a larger number of employers and participants. By directly linking job seekers with hiring industries, Careers and Coffee supports Brownsville’s vision of building a resilient, future-ready workforce aligned with the city’s long-term industrial growth.

GBIC Executive Director Helen Ramirez emphasized that the success of Careers and Coffee reflects Brownsville’s collaborative approach to economic development.

“Workforce readiness is at the heart of our growth strategy. By bringing together employers, educators, and job seekers, we are creating an ecosystem that fuels both opportunity and innovation.”
